Editorial methodology
Follow the evidence. Understand the differences.
Political coverage compares what retrieved outlets actually report, including their emphasis, framing, agreements and disagreements. Outlet leaning labels are attributed to AllSides online-news ratings, checked October 10, 2026; they are not verdicts on individual articles. Center does not guarantee neutrality or accuracy, and unknown outlets remain unrated. We distinguish primary statements from independent reporting, identify shared wire sourcing, and never invent a missing perspective. Presidential covers reporting relevant to the sitting president of the United States. Our daily category targets guide selection but do not override evidence and review requirements.
Source selection starts with relevance, accessibility and provenance. Primary records can establish what an institution announced; they do not automatically prove every assertion in an announcement. Linked records include source identity and retrieval information. Shared primary material and syndicated reports are identified as shared evidence.
Claims are distinguished as verified, attributed, disputed, unverified or contradicted. A model proposing a label is not enough to make a fact verified. Supporting evidence must match the claim, its date and its scope. Missing information stays unknown; it is not replaced with invented certainty.
Automated revision and approval run as separate stages. A revision is checked against its evidence, and a fresh review assesses support, contradictions, originality, clarity, source use and sensitivity. An automated approval is recorded as an automated decision. Publication remains subject to the publishing controls; approval is not a promise that an article contains no errors.
We describe observable differences in focus and framing, not a numerical political-bias score. Several accounts repeating one source do not satisfy independent corroboration simply because they have different domain names.
Sensitive allegations, medical advice, election integrity, active emergencies and financial recommendations require heightened review. Insufficient evidence or unresolved rights can stop publication. Material revisions invalidate earlier approvals and require another review.
Automatically published comparisons may use two distinct source groups. Independent fact-check pending means automated source and editorial checks have run, but independent human checking has not been completed or scheduled. Missing political perspectives are disclosed rather than blocking an otherwise supported comparison. These notices do not turn reported claims into verified facts.
An owner-approved article may be released from the held backlog with verification pending. It is labeled separately from articles that completed automated evidence and quality checks. Owner direction is permission to publish, not an independent fact-check; inaccessible sources and unresolved checks are disclosed.
